Courriel de Cœur-Europe à Ryanair 21 octobre
Dear Mr. O’Leary,
On Sunday October 9th, Ryanair flights to Barcelone, Berlin, and Palma de Majorca departing from Brussels Airport at respectively 12:55 PM, 13:09 PM and 13:21 PM hit the painful levels of 70 decibels to 78 decibels across seven different locations throughout Brussels.
Not only are you inflicting every day severe pain to hundreds of thousands of inhabitants right at the center of Europe, starting January 2017 you will also be inflicting a severe burden to the Ryanair wallet, as noise tolerances against Brussels overflight norms will be reduced to zero.
To continue making money in Belgium and retaining the support of your Belgian customers, we suggest (i) you move more flights to Brussels-South/Charleroi Airport, your best platform in continental Europe, and (ii) lobby the Flemish government to shift Brussels Airport runways and flight routes further away from densely populated areas.
Is it fair to your shareholders, your customers, and european people altogether that Ryanair bears the investment cost of new planes while an old airport built by the Nazis at the edge of town makes no infrastructure upgrade to adjust to its environment, contrary to what is done everywhere else in Europe ?
As an Irish man, I am sure you may anticipate how hard a clash between communities may resonate when the right course of actions are not taken.
Refusing to take environmental issues into account is a sharp mistake. We hope the message is clear for Ryanair: fly away from Brussels Airport!
Sincerely Your’s
Jean-Noel Lebrun
